The past is represented by the American Historic Racing Motorcycle Association’s Bonneville Vintage Grand Prix, featuring bikes ranging from the 1940s (and, in some cases, older) to the 1980s. The schedule includes practice sessions on Friday, followed by racing on both Saturday and Sunday, all on the 2.2-mile East Course.

Included in the event will be the extremely popular Le Mans-start “Battle of the CB-160s” race. To start this race, the 30-40 racers must run across the track to a “bike holder,” bump-start their motorcycle then battle for the lead. Also included will be two rounds of vintage and modern sidecar racing with the Superside America Sidecar Championship and Sidecar Racers Association West Inc. Race Series.

Off the track, Saturday’s Motorcycle Classics Vintage Motorcycle Show will feature an unusual collection of vintage bikes. Also, AHRMA will raffle off a vintage BMW R75 that has been restored by BMW/Triumph Motorcycles of Salt Lake. Vendors, a swap meet, and a “Sell Your Bike Corral” will be at the event as well. In addition, BMW/Triumph Motorcycles of Salt Lake will be offering demo rides on new Triumph motorcycles.

MMP’s own Masters of the Mountains series, organized by the Utah Sport Bike Association, attracts many of the best amateur racers from throughout the western United States. This weekend is the sixth round of this year’s seven-race championship. Riders will be competing on the 2.18-mile West Course in 19 different classes for contingency money (provided by sponsors for using their products), trophies and points toward the series championship.

Representing what may well be the future of two-wheel tech is the TTXGP series, the world’s premier electric motorcycle championship, making its first appearance at MMP and sharing track time with the Masters of the Mountains series. TTXGP was developed in 2009 as an international race series providing a high-profile platform for the development of electric vehicles, enabling the futuristic technology behind them to be tested in an exciting and challenging way. TTXGP aims to drive low-carbon technological innovation forward, to demonstrate that clean-emission transport technologies have matured and can be fun, fast and exciting. TTXGP currently has three international championship series operating in Europe, Australia and the United States.

For TTXGP, the series’ appearance at MMP will be the season finale of the three-race 2011 U.S. championship, with previous events at Infineon Raceway in May and Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca in July. The winners from the U.S. series will join the winners from the other series for a World Championship Final in Europe, set for October.

Tickets for Bike Fest are priced at $10 on Saturday and Sunday for adults or $15 for both days. Friday admission is free to everyone and kids 12 and under are free on Saturday and Sunday.
