AltRider’s Hoh Rainforest Ride 2014: August 22-24

Located on Washington State’s Olympic Peninsula, the Hoh Rainforest is known for its spectacular 20-story conifer trees and beautiful river vistas. Adventure motorcycle outfitter AltRider has gained special permission to ride in this stunning National Park for the 2014 Hoh Rainforest Ride.

Taking place August 22 through the 24, the event will offer riders a thrilling weekend of epic adventures just 2 hours away from AltRider’s headquarters. The ride will kick off at a campground on the shores of Lake Cushman, located in the shadow of the majestic Olympic Mountain Range. After setting up camp, riders will enjoy a scrumptious dinner prepared by the Skokomish Tribe complimented by a keg of local microbrew.

Hoh Rainforest
The Hoh Rainforest features beautiful routes amongst old-growth greenery.

Awaken the next morning to coffee and a catered breakfast in preparation for a full day exploring the Hoh Rainforest’s beauty. After a short rider’s meeting with a few off-road riding tips, the group will embark on the first leg of the GPS-led ride. Multiple route options offer something for all skill levels, from novice to seasoned veteran. Snaking through the beautiful vistas of the Hoh, the trek will take riders along the twist and turns of gravel roads and trails surrounded by the natural beauty of the forest. Halfway through the ride, the course makes its way to a scenic picnic spot for lunch and a moment of rest before jumping back into the ride for the remainder of the day. That evening, riders will retire back to the campsite for a group dinner and end-of-day celebration, including prizes from sponsors ICON, Akrapovic, RoxSpeed FX, MotoUSA, MotoQuest, Triumph of Seattle, Skagit Powersports, GripTwister Tours and Ducati Bellevue.

Sunday, riders will enjoy another hearty breakfast before preparing for the ride home. Those who need a little more dirt therapy will find some of the best terrain the Olympic Peninsula has to offer on the alternate routes back to Highway 101.
Registration for the ride is $175 and includes five locally-prepared meals, local microbrew beer, riding seminars and giveaways. Head to AltRider’s website to sign up for the 2014 Hoh Rainforest Ride–space is limited so reserve your spot before it’s gone.

Participants will also have the opportunity to take an off-road refresher course conducted by PSSOR, a local off-road riding school. The course will take place on Friday, August 22 (the morning of when the Hoh Rainforest Ride starts) and will be an additional $95. Knowledgeable instructors will focus on proper off-road posture (sitting and standing), managing traction on hills and loose surfaces, using body weight to reduce riding effort, and other key areas to improve off-road riding skills. This class is limited to just 10 people.
