2010 marks 30 years since BMW Motorrad founded the segment of large touring enduro motorcycles with the launch of the BMW R 80 G/S. The G/S (the “G” stands for Gelande or terrain, and the “S” stands for Strasse or road) earned victories in the Paris-Dakar races of the 1980s under Hubert Auriol and Gaston Rahier, and quickly became the mount of choice for world adventure riders.
This year in celebration BMW is offering Special Edition models of the F 800 GS, the R 1200 GS and R 1200 GS Adventure. All three are slated for a worldwide launch in June 2010 and have Special Edition features and pricing in addition to an Alpine white finish with tri-color Special Edition decals and Special Edition red seat with embroidered GS logo.
