The BMW F 450 GS is a new concept adventure bike that BMW Motorrad states is “near-production-ready,” with promises that a production version will be presented in 2025. This mid-displacement ADV fills a gap between the G 310 GS and F 800/900 GS, and BMW’s press release puts emphasis on the bike’s off-road capability and accessibility.

BMW says a totally new engine will be used for the F 450 GS, a parallel-Twin with “never-before-used ignition offset.” The engine is said to conform to the A2 license class in Europe with 48 hp, and it will use lightweight materials such as magnesium. Also conforming to the A2 license requirements, BMW reports the bike’s weight at 384 lb.

The F 450 GS will have a fully adjustable inverted fork and a shock with load-dependent damping, and it’s shown with 19-inch front and 17-inch rear spoked wheels. BMW has yet to release any more technical engine or chassis details, so we’ll have to wait for more information.

BMW has claimed that the F 450 GS will be equipped with several rider aids and electronics, including BMW Motorrad ABS Pro (lean-sensitive), configurable ride modes, and BMW Connectivity for smartphone connection through the 6.5-inch TFT display.

Taking design cues from the top-of-the-range BMW R 1300 GS, the concept features a characteristic color scheme of blue, white, and red.

In speaking about possible changes from the concept to a production version, vehicle project manager Johann Simon said, “No compromises for sure. Following the very sporty off-road focus of the Concept F 450 GS, we will implement the bike as close as possible to this concept. We will only adjust the seat height for better accessibility and easier handling. As an alternative to the cross-spoke wheels, lightweight but high-strength cast-aluminum wheels in the same dimensions are also conceivable.”

  1. As a “senior” rider, who still loves trail and fire-roads, this bike looks great – if the seat height and comfort is reasonable. I once owned an amazing R1200GS so the 19″ front wheel is not an issue. I only hope that the engine can provide comfortable travel on the tarmac in order to reach the wonderful forest roads here in the mountains of SW Virginia!

  2. 48hp and 385 pounds and it still probably needs protection bars so now close to 400? 19” front wheel? If you want to ride off road there are much better bikes in the 450-50”cc class. And who needs ride modes and traction control with 48 HP? I love my 1250 GSA but this bike just seems like a miss. SMH.

  3. I looked at this announcement with great anticipation as for the last 5 years I have been the proud owner of a BMW 650GS Dakar and thought this could potentially be its successor! The above comments are dissuading from that hope.

  4. Awesome look requires it coming in with a minimum of 4.5 gallons of fuel, would prefer 5-6 gallons or something similar to a Rally mileage range. Aftermarket tank options look difficult with the proprietary styling. The current trend of the 450 class of ADV bike is expected to perform over distance, and have a 21” front in the current smaller ADV mindset. It cannot be in top contention as an ADV with 3 gallons and a 19” front wheel, can it? Would not want to see a mix of limiting capabilities that would be more suited to short distance or limited use. You all know that unicorn argument, that Kove Rally pulls some good words on with its fuel range, adjustable world traveling all-terrain capability, not stacked with odd or limiting built-in factors. This Moto F450 appears to be “proprietary” looking in that any major limiting factor, such as a small fuel cell, might be nearly impossible to rectify with aftermarket solution. Soooooooo hopeful! Been off a moto for a couple/few decades and at 59 years old I am holding off as long as I can, in high hopes of a light enough cross-country, multi-terrain moto that requires little to nothing to get on it and cover thousands of miles exploring new places. Low weight and great fuel distance are key factors. Needs to blow the 450 Himi, 450 Kove, 450 MT/Ibex out of the water on the first try! You get one shot to hit the market hard and ready for adventure. This is not a time to flop at launch.
