In much the same way BMW produced a more offroad worthy (and subsequently very popular) F 650 GS twin with its F 650 GS Dakar, now the German company has announced it will offer a “dirtier” version of its entry-level G 650 GS single called the G 650 GS Sertão. Named after a desert in northern Brazil, according to BMW’s global press information the Sertão has the same frame and liquid-cooled, fuel-injected, DOHC 652cc single as the standard G 650 GS. To ready it for serious adventures the bike gets more suspension travel, 8.27 inches total front and rear, and 21- / 17-inch spoked light-alloy wheels carrying tube-type tires. Oddly, however, it still carries just 3.7 gallons of fuel. For loading-up long-distance gear a luggage carrier in back is standard, as are an extended front fender, taller windscreen, hand protectors and a skid plate. That longer suspension elevates the standard seat height to 33.9 inches; a even taller 35.4 inch-high saddle is also available along with a long list of other accessories. The bike’s standard ABS can be switched off, too.
No word on pricing, the Sertão’s exact stateside specs or when it will hit dealers, though BMW is planning to introduce the G 650 GS Sertão to the U.S. press sometime this year.

The first sentence wrongly references the “twin”. That was a single as well.
Hmm. 3.7 gallons. We Western states riders will wonder if BMW is working on commission with RotopaX.
Where is this addition to the 650 GS line made?
