New Triumph Moto2 Race Engine for 2027

Triumph Motorcycles and MotoGP reveal a new race engine which will power the Moto2 World Championship beginning in 2027.

Triumph has been the exclusive engine supplier for the Moto2 World Championship since 2019. Over the course of the last seven years, Triumph has worked to revolutionize the intermediate class, beginning with the introduction of the liquid-cooled 765cc inline-three engine, which can be found in the Street Triple 765 RS.

Utilizing data captured from nearly two-million miles of racing, along with rider feedback, Triumph has been able to steadily improve upon its engine package since its introduction in 2019. The 765cc race engine has seen updates to the gearbox, with more power being extracted, which has allowed Triumph to refine the already competitive engine to deliver more performance and closer racing in the Moto2 class.

Triumph’s new Moto2 engine will be 4.4lb lighter than the previous generation and offer a 6% increase in peak power.

For 2027, a new cylinder head, along with a completely redesigned low-inertia valvetrain, higher flow ports, and a new combustion chamber design will work together to produce a higher compression ratio with more torque throughout the rev range. They also redesigned the crankcases and all the internal components to cope with the additional power and torque. In all, the changes to the Moto2 powerplant will deliver an overall weight reduction of 4.4lb and offer a 6% increase in peak power. The Moto2 machines will also see a change in capacity; however exact specifications haven’t been revealed yet.

Along with updating the engine, the British motorcycle brand will develop a completely new chassis for 2027, although who manufactures it has yet to be divulged. According to Triumph, the primary intention of the new chassis is to improve how the air intake is positioned, as well as the engine mounting points.

The Moto2 World Championship has been a proving ground for future MotoGP stars, with a number of premier class racers having honed their skills aboard machines powered by the Triumph 765cc engine. Since 2019, lap records have been rewritten in the Moto2 category thanks to the Triumph powerplant, with just shy of 100 all-time records being surpassed over the course of eight seasons. With more power and torque, along with a reduction in weight, a greater overall capacity, and a newly designed chassis, we can expect to see those records be eclipsed in 2027 and beyond.

The new race engine will be available to Moto2 teams in the coming months, with private track testing currently ongoing ahead of its competitive debut at the start of the 2027 Moto2 World Championship season.
