Chattahoochee BDR-X Unveiled Sept. 19, 2024

The latest off-road route by the nonprofit Backcountry Discovery Routes will be unveiled Thursday, Sept. 19 in a special YouTube broadcast. The Chattahoochee BDR-X, affectionately dubbed the “Hoochee,” will become the 18th BDR route and the fifth BDR-X, which are shorter, loop-style routes.

The broadcast will feature a 30-minute documentary film screening and the release of GPS tracks, a waterproof route map, and route resources. Also included will be exclusive behind-the-scenes looks at the route’s development and its first expedition. It’ll be hosted from BDR’s headquarters in Seattle, and members of the expedition film team will join the broadcast from the BMW Performance Center in Greer, South Carolina.

“We’ve designed this BDR-X to be the ‘Greatest Hits’ of the Chattahoochee National Forest region,” said Kik Lakeman, route architect and BDR board member, “with a blend of scenic backcountry paved and gravel roads with incredible forest riding that criss-crosses the Appalachian Trail multiple times. Riders will encounter notable north Georgia highlights such as the Toccoa River swinging footbridge, Brasstown Bald, Helton Creek Falls, stunning mountain lakes, state parks, numerous creek crossings, and more – all set beneath a lush forest canopy.”
