Arizona State Route 89A winds through the Prescott National Forest between Prescott Valley and Jerome. Miles of pristine pavement and very few turnouts make for a very relaxing and enjoyable ride.
Discovering hidden roadside points of interest is one of the best parts of a road trip. The General George S. Patton Memorial Museum, in Chiriaco Summit, California, sits at the former entrance to Camp Young, once the world’s largest army post and the home of the World War II Desert Training Center (DTC). General Patton was the first commanding general of the DTC, where North American soldiers were trained to fight the German Afrika Korps in the North African theater. (Photos by the author)
