Adventure bikes are often described as two-wheeled Swiss Army knives because of their versatility. Likewise, adventure riding apparel, such as the Rev’It Outback 2 Jacket and Sand 3 Pants, works in a wide range of conditions. As their names implies, the Outback 2 and Sand 3 are suitable for hot, dry deserts but is also designed to keep you warm and dry on cold, rainy days.

Several materials make up the outer shell of the jacket and pants, including abrasion-resistant 500D PWR|shell (similar to Cordura), 600D polyester, ripstop polyester and durable stretch material at key flex points.

Removable top and bottom Hydratex rain liners are said to be 100-percent waterproof (we’re in the dry season, so I couldn’t test this claim), and a removable, full-sleeve thermal liner keeps the upper body warm. With the liners removed, air can flow in and out via zippered vents on the chest, forearms, back and thighs.

SeeFlex CE Level 2 shoulder, elbow, hip and knee armor is included, but you must pay an extra $49.99 to get the SeeSoft CE Level 2 back protector. There are numerous pockets and fitment adjusters, and the jacket is prepared for use with a Leatt or Moveo neck brace as well as Rev’It’s Challenger cooling vest ($99.99) and high-vis Vest Connector HV ($49.99).

At $499.99 for the jacket and $359.99 for the pants, this is a premium-priced suit, and the money you spend goes into high-quality materials and top-notch design, construction and attention to detail.

I’ve worn this suit commuting, on back road test rides and on all-day thrash-and-bash dual-sport rides, and, thanks to its cut and smart use of stretch fabric, it fits me well and never impedes movement.

Its zippers, fasteners and pockets are tough and easy to use with gloved hands, and its thermal liner and vents work as promised.

If there’s one thing I’d change, it would be to make the vents larger to pull out more heat when working up a sweat on challenging adventure rides. But all in all, this is a great set of gear that adds a touch of style to my moto-wardrobe.

The Outback 2 jacket is available in men’s sizes S-4XL in Black, Blue/Black, Sand/Black and Silver/Anthracite. The Sand 3 pants come in men’s sizes S-4XL regular, S-3XL short and M-2XL tall in Black and Anthracite.
