Joe Rocket is known for its stylish products targeting young sportbike enthusiasts, but the Meteor FX Mid Boots will likely appeal to a broader class of motorcyclists. “Mid” means ankle height, as the boot top is 7 inches above the sole, measured at the rear (size 13). Motorcycle boots traditionally carry shaft heights of 11 inches and higher. The higher the better is the thinking, but for the majority of the motorcycling public, a boot that covers the ankle can be adequate for safety and superior for comfort.

The Meteor FX boots are manufactured of black leather with woven fabric inlays front and rear for enhanced flexibility and comfort. The toe profile is low enough to provide a dressy appearance while being full and firm enough for comfort, ease of shifting and some amount of bump protection. A half-width rubberized shift pad on both boots avoids leather scuffing. Reflective piping outlines the upper and heel foxing. The rear upper collar snugs up well and provides a grab area for pulling on, and there’s just enough exterior branding to be sporty.

The Meteors travel on a one-piece slip resistant rubber outsole with a pebble point design that scoops slightly in the arch. Cleating extends from mid-center on the outside of the sole. Fully lined with breathable woven fabric, the boots resist moisture via full gusseting and a Dry-Tech interior membrane. The lightweight footbed of woven fabric over foam removes easily and allows replacement with a variety of aftermarket inserts.

The weak link in any zippered footwear is the zipper. Joe Rocket specs quality YKK brand zippers on the Meteor FX so failure is unlikely, but should that occur the leather overlay snugs up just fine with its wide hook-and-loop patch. I rode with the boots fully unzipped but closed by the overlay with no problems.

My experience with the Meteor FX Mid boots was so positive I lent them to a friend for another opinion. They have yet to be returned so that speaks for itself. Thus far, the boots have been put to the test riding cruisers, dual-sports and maxi scooters. Those riding other types of motorcycles will likely be pleased as well and find they style nicely with almost any riding attire.

The Meteor FX Mid boots are available in men’s sizes 7-13. Sizing runs a bit small, so order accordingly. Those with extremely wide feet should consider trying them on before buying. The boots carry a retail price of $109.99 and are available from authorized Joe Rocket retailers. A taller version is also available for a few dollars more!
