Aprilia unveiled its 2017 RSV4 and Tuono V4 1100 models at the Intermot show in Germany.

Aprilia has updated its RSV4 sportbike and Tuono V4 1100 streetfighter models for 2017. They are now Euro4 compliant and feature improved suspension and brakes (including cornering ABS) as well as an updated Aprilia Performance Ride Control (APRC) electronics package.

The new APRC suite of electronic rider aids includes the following:

  • ATC (Aprilia Traction Control) is adjustable on the fly (without having to release the throttle) to 8 settings or can be turned off using a practical joystick, and the system has more fine-tuned logic for higher performance operation.
  • AWC (Aprilia Wheelie Control), which is adjustable to 3 levels or can be turned off, has more precise operating strategies thanks to the repositioning of the inertial platform. Wheelie control can now be adjusted on the fly without closing the throttle thanks to the new switchgear on the left handlebar.
  • ALC (Aprilia Launch Control), which is for track use only and has 3 settings, is more effective with new operating strategies.
  • AQS (Aprilia Quick Shift), an electronically controlled gearbox that allows shifting without closing the throttle and without using the clutch, now offers clutchless downshifting.
  • APL (Aprilia Pit Limiter) lets you select and limit the top speed allowed in pit lane at the track or simply to make it easier to comply with posted speed limits on the road.
  • ACC (Aprilia Cruise Control): new electronic management enables an advanced cruise control system, letting the rider maintain a set speed without touching the throttle.

2017 Aprilia RSV4 RR and RSV4 RF
Now Euro4 compliant, performance of the RSV4’s liquid-cooled, 999.6cc, 65-degree V4, with DOHC and 4 valves per cylinder, is undiminished. It still makes 201 horsepower at 13,000 rpm and 85 lb-ft of torque at 10,500 rpm (claimed, at the crank). It has a new ECU, a new exhaust, a 300-rpm-higher redline, revised pistons, connecting rods and valve springs, and the variable valve timing system has been eliminated. Three new engine maps—Sport, Track and Race—adapt engine performance to riding conditions, and the 6-speed transmission now has a linear sensor for smoother gear changes.

Suspension on the RR model is made by Sachs, with a fully adjustable fork and shock. The RF model gets the latest generation of fully adjustable Öhlins suspension, with an NIX fork and TTX shock. Both feature larger 330mm front discs with top-shelf Brembo Monobloc M50 calipers, as well as Bosch 9.1 MP cornering ABS with multiple modes. There’s also new full-color TFT instrumentation and an updated version of Aprilia’s V4-MP multimedia platform.

The RSV4 RR incorporates all the electronic, engine and brake updates introduced on the RSV4 RF, and it now includes as standard equipment features which were once exclusive to the Factory version, such as magnesium external housings, oil sump and head covers and a wide range of chassis adjustments. For 2017, the RR is available in two new attractive color schemes (Bucine White and Ascari Black), both matte, on a black and gray base with red wheels. The higher-spec RSV4 RF features Öhlins suspension and lightweight forged aluminum forged wheels. Its dedicated livery is similar to the previous “Superpole” version but has a different graphic pattern. Pricing and availability are TBD for both RSV4 models.

Like the RSV4, the Tuono V4 1100 is powered by a liquid-cooled, 65-degree V4 with DOHC and 4 valves per cylinder that is now Euro4 compliant, but with a higher displacement of 1,077cc. Tuned for the street, it makes 175 horsepower at 11,000 rpm and 89 lb-ft of torque at 9,000 rpm (claimed, at the crank). It has a new ECU, a new exhaust, a 500-rpm-higher redline, revised internals, new engine maps (Sport, Track and Race) and a linear sensor in the 6-speed transmission. The fully adjustable suspension and steering damper on the RR is made by Sachs, while on the Factory they’re made by Öhlins. Both feature larger 330mm front discs with Brembo Monobloc M432 calipers, as well as Bosch 9.1 MP cornering ABS with multiple modes. The Tuono also receives new full-color TFT instrumentation and the updated V4-MP multimedia platform.

The Tuono V4 1100 RR is available in two color schemes, Portimao White and Assen Black, and the Tuono V4 1100 Factory wears special Superpole livery. In addition to the Factory’s Öhlins suspension and steering damper, it has an RSV4-derived, two-up tail section and Pirelli Diablo Supercorsa tires with a wider 200/55 rear. The RR is shod with Pirelli Diablo Rosso III tires with a 190/55 rear. Pricing and availability are TBD for both Tuono V4 1100 models.
