The 1873 Cottonwood Charcoal Kilns were built to supply charcoal to local smelters. Kilns used to be on the Owens Lake shoreline, providing easy boat transport, but are high and dry since Los Angeles took the Owens Valley water long ago.
Tom's Place is a good spot to eat and immerse yourself in the local culture.
