BMW has announced new paint schemes for several models for 2016 and the addition of ABS Pro—which works in corners—to the K 1600 GT/GTL and GTL Exclusive as standard and as part of the Ride Modes Pro option on the S 1000 XR, R 1200 GS and R 1200 GS Adventure. Interestingly, BMW also announced that a Dynamic Brake Light function will also be available on the above bikes in Europe, but not in the U.S. The DBL flashes the brake light under strong braking at speeds below 31 mph (50 kph), and the brake light and hazard warning lights together at speeds under 9 mph (14 kph). Although the laws regarding flashing both rear turn signals or accessory lights when the brakes are applied vary state-to-state, so far it is not legal to flash the main brake light(s) in the U.S.
The 2016 BMW R nineT will be available with special equipment features that include a hand-brushed naked/exposed aluminum fuel tank with smoothed welding seams, or a hand-brushed naked/exposed aluminum fuel tank with visible welding seams, and heated grips. Finally, BMW will offer a special “Triple Black” edition of the R 1200 GS, which has a virtually all-black finish.
