Continental Divide Adventure Ride coming in August 2012

The 23rd Annual Running of the Dogs, also known as the “Big Dog Adventure Ride,” has announced their fraternal gathering will take place August 10-12, 2012 in the Continental Divide Rocky Mountains of central Wyoming.

Cited as the world’s “highest, toughest, dirtiest and meanest” big displacement off-road motorcycle adventure ride, the Big Dog Adventure Ride is open to a limited number of entrants on 640cc displacement motorcycles or larger.

The 2012 event will be based in Lander, Wyoming. An optional day ride from BMW of Denver is slated for August 9 for riders wanting to add a personal day of adventure riding to the group’s base in Lander, Wyoming. The official “Start” will be August 10 from Lander.

Entrants in this year’s event include riders from as far away as South Africa, mounted on BMWs, Kawasakis, Hondas, KTMs and one highly modified Harley-Davidson 1200cc “Dual-Sportster.”

Event VIPs include longtime host of the event, BMW of Denver, Bob’s BMW of Jessup, Maryland, Sandia BMW of Albuquerque, New Mexico and well-known adventure motorcycle outfitters Happy Trails of Boise, Idaho.

This year entrants will be “tipping their helmets” to Kawasaki KLR650 riders, celebrating 25 years of production of the venerable model. Lander Marine and Kawasaki, the oldest Kawasaki dealer in the United States, will be joining in the celebration with their secret “Prairie Dog BBQ.”

The Big Dog Adventure Ride has become known as an annual invitational gathering of serious dual-sport motorcycle adventurists, or “The Annual Running of the Dogs.” Some openings are available for first time DOGS. Interested and experienced motorcycle adventurers should contact bigdogbmw@yahoo.com after perusing the Big Dog website at www.horizonsunlimited.com/bigdog to see if they have what it takes. The Big Dog RIde is neither motorcycle race nor rally. It is the annual gathering of a fraternity of like-minded aficionados sharing a similar philosophy, their way of thinking.
