Helena, Montana (October 22, 2009) - On Saturday, August 15th, Montana resident Chris Sorbi embarked on a grueling around-the-globe motorcycle journey to raise funds and awareness for the number one cause of death in the world: Hunger. On his motorcycle, Sorbi will traverse 6 continents, 200 countries, 24 time zones and 130 degrees of latitude.

The odometer started clicking at the state capitol in Helena, Montana. From that point, Sorbi will travel north, first touring Canada, before turning south toward Latin America. Sorbi is working with local non-governmental agencies and contributing funds to non-profit organizations such as “Save the Children” and “One,” solely on a volunteer basis. Additionally, during this journey, Sorbi will collaborate with motorcycle enthusiasts and mountaineers to raise funds focusing on world hunger. In the course of his Latin American tour, Sorbi will climb some of the highest peaks in Mexico and the Andes, explore various tributaries of the Amazon River and cross the Atacama Desert in Chile, the driest place on Earth.

Chris Sorbi is a human rights advocate, naturalist and experienced mountaineer. He speaks several languages and has traveled extensively throughout America, Asia and Europe.

“In the world of astronomical communications that we live in, we are still divided as a species.” said Sorbi, “We are largely ignorant of the ways and traditions of other cultures. We owe it to ourselves to not be casual and indifferent observers, but to be world citizens. This is neither a leisure get-a-way, nor a ‘Euro trip,’ but rather an attempt to empathize with the human struggle on a grander scale and deliver a first-hand and unbiased account of it. Although our planet produces twice the amount of food needed to feed its population, still 36 million people die each year as a result of starvation. More absurdly, 60% of all child deaths under five years of age are caused by malnourishment. We are taking shortcuts on the very basic human right: the right to food.” Sorbi explained, “I have devoted everything I own to the implementation of this mission but it will not be enough. We need a global awakening. We need to unite and inform people in order to put an end to this mortification. I know this journey will have ups and downs, thrills and chills, but the only way to accomplish this goal is to strive.”
