Just wondering if anyone has ever removed there outer fairing and tightend whatever screw/bolt to stop the fairing from viberating so much at idle. It seems to be worse on the right side. It started ratteling here recently when parked with the handlebars turned to the left.
I've got the service manual and I'm sure I can figure it out. Was
just wondering if someone has done this before.

When I had my bike in to the indy for the 60m service, he said it had a partially broken fairing bracket, on both sides. I said, I woulda paid ya to fix that. He said bike woulda been down for a couple of more weeks. Part to fix is not always in stock. I told him rather than pay twice to have the fairing off, I would have given him time to fix it. I haven't been back to look at the manual he has yet, but when the roads ice over, it will go into the shop.
Said all that to say this, your bike is a lot newer, but might be a similar problem. He only found mine cause the 60 service involves taking the fairing off to get at the forks.
I have been told that if you do pull the fairing off, have an extra set of hands.

Thanks Slow,
I've reveiwed the removal procedure on the Fix My Hog DVD several times, and like you said, it's a whole lot better to do this with two people. I looked at the service manual this morning and I'm not quite clear as to what to look for as far as mounting screws, brackets and bolts go. It sure looks busy behind that fairing.
I may just let the dealer look at it when I bring it in for a new front tire change next summer.

Well, I removed the outer fairing and discovered that both vertical support brackets were broken at the top were it attaches to the inner fairing. Instead of replacing them, I was prepared to repair them with the "L" brackets I bought from Wal-Mart. I had previously conducted a google search on broken inner fairing brackets and came up with a host of information on how to repair them from the hdforum site. The one thing that kept ringing in my head was. Why replace them if they are just going to break again down the road.
A couple of bucks for the L brackets. The screws' nuts and lockwashers I already had in the garage and an hours time the brackets were fixed and all fairing vibrations stopped.
A whole lot simpler than replacing both fairing support brackets and a more permanent fix.

Long as you're gonna have to spring for new rotors - why not go the polished route?
Just did that on my Road King and there aren't enough e's in the alphabet to say how SWEEEEET they look.

Take your pick, they're all over eBay - outright and exchange.

I plan on keeping the bike several more years, don't have a service manual, just been muddling thru.
Would you recommend purchasing Service Manual, and/or Fix My Hog?

So far, I have yet to run into anything the factory H-D Service Manual doesn't explain well enough for me to understand.
I've never seen the Fix My Hog DVD - never even heard of it until now.
Tell me more - maybe I'll spring for one.
